Automotive Preventative care CARS Wellington UT

Preventative care =What's in a service check up?

If you're interested in extending the life of your vehicle as much as possible and keeping more cash in your pocket, it's wise to perform preventative care items such as oil changes and tune-ups. But what exactly is a tune-up these days?
Automobiles have become increasingly dependent on computers to run most or all of their systems such as ignition, engine performance, fuel injection and electronics. During any tune-up, a reputable mechanic will want to scan the computer for any codes that may indicate an error and check the ignition system.
  1.  Present-day tune-up at CARS should include an inspection of the vehicle’s spark plugs to see if they need to be replaced. The same goes for the spark plug wires. The vehicle’s air filter and fuel filter should also be inspected and replaced if necessary. For most vehicles, these preventative care tune-ups and inspections should start at about 60,000 miles and then be checked again at 20,000-mile intervals thereafter. This is a big change from older, more mechanically driven cars that required technicians to change the points and distributor cap as well as adjusting the carburetor, ignition point settings and timing every few thousand miles. The reliance on computers to monitor these automotive systems has now required technicians to be proficient computer software and scanning machines in order to diagnose issues.
  2. Something to be aware of also, is that if you are experiencing a performance problem like chugging or slow acceleration, it may not be related to a need for a tune-up, but a symptom of the emissions system, such as a blocked catalytic convertor, or the fuel delivery system, such as a clogged fuel injector. Take it to CARS = complete auto repair service and describe the problem so they can diagnose what the car needs
  3. One final note for drivers is to be aware that when you visit CARS repair shop and request a tune-up, this does not necessarily include an oil change or other fluid changes.  Oil changes should be done more frequently than tune-ups,  but that schedule is being extended as well to about every 5,000 to 7,500 miles - depending on the vehicle, engine size and driving - due to cleaner running engines and synthetically blended oils. Keep track of your mileage and consult with you mechanic, don't necessarily rely on the change oil light on the dash.
In any case, be sure to get an estimate for all work that is suggested and that you understand why the technician is recommending it. Working together with your trusted Mechanic, you can be reassured that you are safe on the road and keep your car running trouble-free!

SAVE GAS when you maintain your CARS Ut

Gas-Saving Tips for Your Auto
The recent price of gasoline has made even the most wasteful people think twice about wasting gas. Whatever your motivation, here are some gas saving tips
Keep your engine "tuned up." A well-maintained engine operates at peak efficiency, maximizing gas mileage. Follow the service schedules listed in the owner's manual. Replace filters and fluids as recommended; have engine performance problems (rough idling, poor acceleration, etc.) corrected at a repair facility. Given today's high-tech engines, it's wise to have this type of work done by auto technicians who are ASE certified in engine performance.
Monitor tires. Under inflated tires or poorly aligned wheels waste fuel by forcing the engine to work harder. (Let the tires cool down before checking the air pressure.) Out-of-line wheels, as evidenced by uneven tread wear, should be aligned by a professional.
Remove excess weight. Remove unnecessary items from the vehicle. Store only essentials in the trunk. Less weight means better mileage.
Consolidate trips and errands. Some trips may be unnecessary. Also, try to travel when traffic is light so you can avoid stop-and-go conditions.
Avoid excessive idling. Shut off the engine while waiting for friends and family.
Observe speed limits. Speeding decreases your miles per gallon.
Drive gently. Sudden accelerations guzzle gas. Anticipate traffic patterns ahead and adjust your speed gradually.
Use windows and air conditioning wisely. Your mileage should improve if you keep the windows closed at highway speeds, since air drag is reduced. This is true even with the air conditioning on-assuming that the system is in good working order. But turn the air conditioning off in stop-and-go traffic to save fuel.
These conservation tips should not only save gasoline, they'll help extend the life of your vehicle. Win-win, indeed.

Engine Repair in Utah - CARS = Complete Auto Repair Service

Did you know that C.A.R.S. = Complete Auto Repair Service near Price Utah, can repair your old motor, or put a new one in an old car and help make your dreams come true.

Before you replace the engine in your car, get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic to ensure that you have at least two mechanics in agreement that a new engine is the only solution. When you bring the car to the second mechanic, ask for a repair estimate to fix the oil leak and to check the car out to see if the first mechanic is wrong.
If you need to replace an engine, then you'll have to carefully consider if you want to make that kind of investment. You may want to research the reliability of the year, make and model of your specific car to see if it's likely to have any other problems that would result in costly repairs.
If your car is in good condition overall, then it may make sense to keep it since the engine repair -- even though it is the most expensive repair you are likely to make -- would still be cheaper than buying a new car. A car purchase would likely cost you $30,000 or more.
There are some terrific advantages to driving an old car, including cheaper car insurance and owning your car outright. But old cars need repairs, especially those that are five years old or older.
While it's almost always cheaper to repair your used car instead of buying a new one, you need more information before you can make a solid financial decision. Find out the answers to these questions:
How much is your car worth?  What would it cost to replace it?  . Assume for a moment that if you replaced your old car, you'd buy a new car that's a similar make and model. Do a bit of research online to determine what the new car would cost. Chances are it's at least $20,000 and possibly a lot more.
How much does the repair cost? Get a couple of quotes on the cost of the job. You can stop by a few mechanics or dealers in your area and ask them to quote the job for you. While the cost of the parts is not likely to be much different -- if it is, ask why -- labor rates can vary from shop to shop and you can possibly save some money by choosing a different mechanic.
With repairs that are roughly equal to the value of your used car or less, it makes better financial sense to make the repair versus buy a new car, since even the most expensive repairs would most likely only equal about a year of car payments on a new car.
Today, most new cars are built to last 200,000 miles or more, with a few more expensive items often needing repair at the 100,000- to 120,000-mile mark. Once your car is paid off, put aside an amount that equals about 20 percent of what your car payment was each month for repairs. This money can be used for any necessary repairs, and any excess will make a nice down payment for your next car when you're ready to buy one.  About a year of car payments on a new car.

Mufflers and Exhaust
1. What is a muffler?
A muffler is a device that is part of your vehicle’s exhaust system. The function of a muffler is to reduce the amount of noise that comes from your vehicle’s engine. The design of the muffler includes steel pipes with chambers inside that have been tuned like an instrument to reflect and cancel most of the noise coming from your engine.
2. What are the benefits of using a high performance muffler?
Not only do high performance mufflers reduce the amount of noise your car makes, they also help increase the efficiency, power output and the performance of your engine. High performance mufflers reduce the amount of back pressure in the exhaust system allowing the engine to work more efficiently. If you really want to give your vehicle a jump start, you should choose a muffler pipe that is larger in diameter and has better air intake like a “cold air intake” style.
3. What types of mufflers are there?

WHY IS MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT?
Your vehicle has hundreds of moving parts all working together. Through normal driving, over time, some of these parts simply wear out or no longer perform the way they should.
To make sure that your vehicle is running at its best, your vehicle manufacturer recommends that certain parts and systems are checked at certain intervals. By following their recommendations, more costly repairs down the road may be avoided.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS?
Repairs are services that are required or necessary when something on your vehicle is not working properly. Also, when your vehicle has worn to the point where a replacement is required to maintain the performance of your vehicle.
The schedule for performing these maintenance services varies from vehicle to vehicle. You will find the schedule for your vehicle in your owner's manual. Following this schedule is the best way to make sure your vehicle is performing as it should.
We offer Maintenance Services that follow the schedule as recommended in your owner's manual.
