10 Things to Know about Brake Pads in Wellington, Price, Helper Utah

Top 10 Things to Know About Brake Pads
Braking is a very important action in your vehicle. The brake pads must be maintained at a certain depth to allow the brakes to function properly. Usually people neglect the brake pads until it is too late and extensive damage has been done. There are 10 things you should know about brake pads to keep you car brakes functioning properly.
Things To Know About Brake Pads
  • Brake pads have a ware indicator device built into them that squeaks to alert the driver to change them.
  • they will squeal constantly not just when you are using them.
  • Ceramic, low-metallic, no asbestos organic, and semi-metallic are the four general types of brake pads.
  • All brake pads come in a set of 2 for either the rear or front.
  • Cheap brake pads wear out faster and leave dust on the front wheels.
  • Expensive brake pads leave less dust but are prone to squealing.
  • Some brake pads contain asbestos.
  • Brake pads should be replaced if they are less than 1/4 inch in depth.
  • Brake pads are basically steel plates with a high friction material on the face.
  • Front brake pads are changed more often than the rear brake pads.
  • Brake Systems:
Brake SystemsThere are two kinds of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes. Disc brakes are the most common system in use today, and they're very much like the hand brakes on a bicycle. When you step on your car's brake pedal, the brake pads squeeze a spinning disc rotor that's attached to the wheel. The resulting friction, when applied to each of the wheels, slows the car.
The second type, drum brakes, involve brake shoes that push out against a spinning brake drum, which is attached to the wheel. This friction slows the car.
Both systems work by creating friction, so brake parts are expected to wear out. The questions then are, how worn out are they? And are they worn out enough that they need to be replaced?
That's what this service is all about — checking these components for wear and other potential problems.
Why do I have to do this?
In short, you do this service so you don't crash into a cabbage truck. So your family will be safer.
What happens if I don't do this?
If you neglect your brake pads and shoes, your brakes will ultimately fail. Even before that happens, however, you can cause damage to other, more expensive brake parts, such as rotors, drums and calipers. In other words: a stitch in time ... saves you from helping your mechanic with a boat payment later on.

How to Communicate to Auto Repair Shop - UT

The following tips should help you along the way:
  • Do your homework before taking your vehicle in for repairs of service.
  • Read the owner's manual to learn about the vehicle's systems and components.
  • Follow the recommended service schedules.
  • Keep a log of a ll repairs and service.
You know your car.
You drive it everyday & know how it feels and sounds when everything is right.  So don't ignore it s warning signals.  Use all your senses to inspect your car frequently.
Check for:
  • Unusual sounds, odors, drips, leaks, smoke, warning lights, gauge readings.
  • Changes in acceleration, engine performance, gas mileage, fluid levels.
  • Worn tires, belts, and hoses.
  • Problems in handling, braking, steering, vibrations.
Note when the problem occurs:
  • Is it constant or periodic?
  • Is it when your vehicle is cold or is it after the engine is warmed up?
  • It it at all speeds?  Only under acceleration? During braking?  When shifting?
  • When did the problem first start?
  • Write the symptoms down to give or tell the technician.
Communication is important between you and your auto repair shop.  You should be prepared to describe the symptoms.  ( In larger shops you will probably speak with a service writer/manager rather than the technician.)
Resist the temptation to suggest a course of repair.  Just as you would do with your physician,  tell where it hurts and how long so that the technician can diagnose and recommend a remedy.
Ask for explanations in layman's terms if you don't understand.
Don't rush the technician to make an on the spot diagnosis.
Before you leave, make sure you understand all the shop policies regarding labor rates, guarantees, & acceptable methods of payment.
Last but not least,  Leave a phone number where you can be called.
Safe Travels to you from

Driving Tips for better performance CARS Carbon county Utah

Green Driving Tips
for better performance

Did you know - Smart and safe driving can improve fuel economy by up to 33%
1) Keep rolling in traffic.  it can take 20% more fuel to accelerate from a full stop than from 5mph. anticipate stops and coast as much as possible.
2)  Avoid unnecessary idling.  When you idle, you get zero miles per gallon, increase engine wear and air pollution goes up.
3)  Drive your vehicle to warm it up.  automobiles today don't need a warm-up.  Even on cold morning's, running your engine for 30 seconds is all you need.
4)  Maintain an optimum highway speed for good mileage. Even going more than 60 mph uses more fuel.    Use Cruise Control.  Cruise control helps maintain a steady speed and can provide a 7% average fuel savings.
5)  Slow down.  Fuel economy decreases about 1% for every mph over 55.
6)  Avoid rapid Stats and Stops.  you'll maximize mileage and save dollars at the pump.
7)  Combine Trips.  you engine runs more efficiently once it's warmed up, so make it in one trip when ever you can.

Ready for Winter Braking?

Breaking in Winter:

Visit Complete Auto Repair Service = CARS and let us help you halt cold weather brake problems in their tracks. We can diagnose your car problems with a Complete Vehicle Inspection, and recommend brake services.

Snow quickly becomes liquid when it comes into contact with a warm snow which becomes rust.   Salt accelerates the rusting process.

Some degree of surface rust is unavoidable, too much rust on your brake rotors can cause a problem known as pitting, waring away at your brake rotors, leaving them scored and rough, which allows rust particles to contaminate the brake pads.

The first signs of wear are: weird sounds, ( squeal, squeak ) reduced stopping power, and stiff braking , or "sluggish" "lose power" feeling when you take your foot off the brake pedal, and a burning smell.

If you notice any of these it might be time for a check up.

Stop by CARS and let us make sure your car is in good running order with at tune up and check for winter safety.
